What has the Empowerment Congress been doing?
Since our 18TH Annual Summit that was held on January 23, 2010, The Empowerment Congress has been involved in leading various efforts, activities and events, working jointly with Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas on a variety of issues impacting health, economic development, human services, transportation, public safety, and justice.
The Empowerment Congress and the Office of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas sponsored and supported events to address a variety of critical issues impacting residents and the communities of the L.A. County 2nd Supervisorial District:

End of April 2010 to Early May 2010 – The Health Committee participated in the RAM LA event held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

Friday, July 16, 2010 - The Economic Development Committee held a Transportation Conference with Policy Link.

Saturday, July 17, 2010 - The Human Services Committee sponsored an Aging-Out Youth dialogue and meeting, which brought together youth and their caregivers, who are about to be emancipated from the foster care system in L.A. County. This allowed them to share their insights and experiences to help improve the foster care system in L.A. County.

Friday, July 23, 2010 – The Public Safety Committee sponsored a Youth Offender Reentry Summit, which allowed many to participate and hear about issues impacting our youth who are in the L.A. County Probation system.

Friday, July 30, 2010 – The Education Committee is conducting a site visit to look at how a Freedom School is operating in the 2nd District.

2010 Annual Summit was a HUGE success! Thank you for participating!
We had an amazing turn out for the event this year. It was held Saturday, January 23, 2010 at UC Dominguez Hills Campus, Carson, CA
1600+ people were in attendance this year, and all were moved to action. Our very own Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas continues to provide outstanding leadership in the community. We are so thankful for Marian Wright Edelman presenting her moving keynote address on the needs of our children.
